Jefferson High’s first-ever flag football team joined the all-class state championship last week at Bobcat Stadium in Bozeman. It was a thrilling moment for the new team — and more so when the Panthers came away with a win in their first-round game, defeating Wolf Point, 25-12.
The Panthers’ road ended with their quarterfinal match-up, a 22-0 loss to Huntley Project. Huntley, which went on to the title game, had a team filled with seniors — and Jefferson had just one. “We are really young,” said Coach Cassidy Parsons. “We will be back super strong next year!”
Meredith Rieder led the team with a combined 14 flag pulls and a batted ball. Maysa LaFromboise made eight catches and scored two touchdowns against Wolf Point, while Cate Barry had five catches and a touchdown. Ada Johnson made two interceptions and two batted balls against Wolf Point, then nine flag pulls against Huntley. And Addie Holman had an interception and five flag pulls in the Huntley game.
