The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said it placed Deputy Eric Meeks on administrative leave last month following his involvement in an incident July 7 in Madison County. Meeks, who is no longer employed by the county, is the subject of an investigation by the state Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation. “Once DCI’s investigation is complete, a report will be forwarded to prosecutors in the Attorney General’s Office for review,” a Justice Department spokesman wrote. Details of the incident, in which Meeks was assisting a Madison County deputy, were not made available.
