The bustle of the Montana Department of Transportation’s (MDT) Main Street improvements continue in Boulder, as crews begin asphalt paving over now complete concrete installations. According to MDT public information officer Heidi Sedlacek, the asphalt paving will be completed by week’s end, by contractor Helena Sand & Gravel (HS&G), which will greatly alleviate traffic disruptions in Boulder.

MDT has contracted construction to HS&G, who, alongside workers from MDT, has, in addition to completing the milling, a process which removed existing asphalt, and concrete installation, nearly completed updates to Main Street sidewalks from Cattle Drive Road to just before I-15, which will see Americans with Disabilities Act compliant ramps installed throughout Boulder.

Once the main stretch of MT-69 passing through Boulder, which is Main Street, is paved, HS&G and MDT crews will begin cleanup of residual rubble and debris, and painting street markings. The project is still on track, according to MDT officials, to complete on-schedule on its original 50 day timeline.

The project, “Boulder-Urban,” is a “mill and overlay” effort meant to rejuvenate existing pavement without fully reconstructing the road, and will improve friction and skid resistance on the stretch of MT-69 that constitutes Boulder’s Main Street.
