Sheila Young, 64, passed away at her home in Boulder on May 20, 2024.
Sheila was born June 17, 1959, in Deer Lodge to Doc & Clara Young. We all believe the mold broke when this one was born. She was witty, and many friends thought she should have been a standup comedian. (She may have been voted Class Clown In one of her school classes). Her imitation of the “Godfather” was in a league of its own. She would sing at the drop of a hat or on request; sometimes she just sang so bar patrons would shake for the music!
Sheila had an active life and lived it fully until no longer physically able. She was an avid reader and had a vocabulary our mother was so proud of! She was loyal, generous, empathetic, and forgiving, and she would go without just to help someone in need. Sheila was a warrior for the underdog but wore her heart on her sleeve. A beautiful person to know, love and have as a friend.
We need to add her love for animals: She had several and named them as uniquely as only she could, and each had something unique about them.
Sheila went to school in Avon and Deer Lodge graduating from El Cajon High School in California, then went on to a series of unusual jobs in her lifetime: Cobbler, saddle repair/rebuild, lunging horses, wildfire fighter, women’s boxing, grease monkey, and groundskeeper. She worked with disabled for years. But her favorite was cooking for the Boulder Senior Center. She loved the people there!
She was preceded in death by her parents, older brother Gary and nephew Robbie. Surviving are her brothers Alan (Donna) Young, Kevin (Doreen) Young; sisters Totsie (George) Pursey, Bonnie (Randy) McCrea, and Nancy (Dudley) Smallwood; son Jonathon Corrigan and grandsons (whom she adored) Zane, Braedon and Nevin Corrigan. And many nieces and nephews, too many to name!
We want to thank the many people who helped Sheila: Lisa and the staff at L&P Grocery (you are angels), special friend Frank Wilkenson, the EMTs and ambulance drivers, the doctors and nurses at the Boulder Clinic, the police and the Town Pump staff. All of you helped and aided her numerous times.
A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date.
