Jefferson High’s track teams completed their regular season on a strong note, with the boys winning a large meet in Anaconda Apr. 30 and a four-school event in Corvallis May 3. The Lady Panthers finished second among 21 schools in Anaconda, a promising result as they head to the District 5B meet in Belgrade this Saturday.
In Anaconda, the boys scored 82 team points, besting Drummond, with 74.5, Valley Christian, 71, Anaconda, 63.5, and Three Forks, 60.5 The girls’ 76.5 team points was second to Three Forks’ 98.5; Anaconda finished 3rd, with 61, followed by Drummonda, 57, and Ennis, 52.
Parker Wagner took 8th in the 100 at 12:28, and Michael Richard was 6th in the 200, at 24.62. McKenon Boyd placed 3rd in the 800 at 2:16.38, while Dylan Mikesell finished 8th at 2:16.38.
In the distance events, Logan Hornung won the 1600 in 4:51.31, with Boyd 3rd in 4:59.45 and Marshal Jensen 7th in 5:14.57. Christian Gillmore took 4th in the 3200, at 11:37.08.
Luke Strizich finished 7th in the 100 hurdles, 19.27, and 4th in the 300 hurdles 46.50, with Wagner 6th in 49.70. The 4×100 relay team of Mondloch, Richard, Wagner and Zeke Dove took 3rd in 47.02.
In the field events, Kaynen Martin placed 5th in the shot put, with 40’ 1”, and 7th in the discus, with 112’ 8”. Dylan Stevens was 7th in the shot, with 39’ 6”. Brady Armstrong finished 3rd in the discus at 120’ 8.5”, with Kaynen Marton 7th at 112’ 8”.
Colten Thornock won the high jump, clearing 5’ 10”, with Zachary Anderson 3rd, at 5’ 6”. Strizizich took 5th in the long jump with 18’ 6.5”, and Tyler Frydenlund placed 9th in the triple jump at 36’ 6”.
For the girls, Arena Faler won both the 100, in 13:53, and the 200, in 27:62. Clare Ronayne took second in both the 100, in 13.65, and the 400, in 1:04.19.
Peyton Stearns placed 5th in the 800, in 2:34.19, and 2nd in the 1600, in 2:34.19. Nevayah Weninger was 8th in the 100 hurdles, 19.53. Maddy Averill , Ronayne, MacKenzie Layng and Faler won the 4×100 relay in 52.63.
In the field, Allie Muffick was 5th in the shot put, at 27’ 9” and 8th in the discus at 79’ 9”. Layng took 2nd in the javelin throw at 115’ 7”, with Muffick 4th at 90’ 9”. Allison Zawacki placed 3rd in the high jump, with 4’ 6”. And Averill won the long jump at 15’ 6”, with Ada Strauss 6th at 13’ 0.25” and Erica Shields 7th at 12’ 11.50”.
Tennis
The Panther tennis squad spent last Friday and Saturday at the Dawg Bite Tournament in Helena.
In singles, number-one Bailee Silvonen had a gritty weekend, losing 4-6, 6-4, (8-6) to Townsend, and 0-5, 1-6, 1-6 to Simms, then winning 7-6, (7-2) against Fairfield, losing 0-6 to Sims and 0-6, 6-2, (6-8) to Choteau, and ending on a 6-2, 6-2 win over Wolf Point.
Clara Genger played to 3-6, 7-5 (2-7) vs. Townsend; and Olivia Sorenson lost 2-6, 3-6 to Wolf Point. Grace Day lost 2-6, 2-6 to one Townsend player, and beat another 6-3, 2-6 (9-7); she then fell 2-6, 3-6 to Fairfield, 1-6 to Simms, and 4-6, 3-6 to Wolf Point. Myle O’Neill lost to Townsend 2-6, 2-6, and 1-6 to Simms.
In doubles, the team of Genger and Addie Leary lost 2-6, 2-6 to Townsend, and 2-6, 3-6 to Fairfield. Holly Keough and Elizabeth Weninger dropped a 4-6, 3-6 match to Townsend, then lost 4-6, 4-6 to Simms and 2-6, 2-6 to Fairfield. Keough and Leary fell 2-6, 2-6 to Fairfield. And Keough and Clara Yap beat Livingston’s JV, 6-3, 6-3.
In the boys’ action, Hunter Heintz lost 2-7 vs Terry, 2-8 to Loyola, and 1-8 to Sims before beating Great Falls Central, 8-3.
The doubles team of Heintz and Gabe Day dropped a 1-8 set to Conrad. Izaak Luhrsen and Cole Christoferson fell 1-8 to Terry, 1-8 to Simms, and 2-8 vs Conrad, before besting Simms, 8-4. And Day and Heintz lost 0-8 to Terry and 0-8 to Conrad.
This Saturday, Jefferson hosts the Panther Open Invitational at Lockey Park in Helena. Then, the tennis squads will compete in their respective divisional tournaments, the girls in Belgrade May 16-17 and the boys in Missoula May 17-18.
