A bicyclist on MT Hwy. 282 was killed when he was struck by a vehicle Saturday evening.

According to the Montana Highway Patrol, on Apr. 27 at about 7:42 p.m., a 36-year-old male from Alberta was riding southbound in the northbound lane on Hwy. 282 at the intersection of Mountain View Estates near mile marker 7, and was struck by a black Ford Edge when attempting to cross the road to avoid the collision. The cyclist suffered severe injuries, and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle was identified as a 46-year-old woman from Pray, MT. MHP said she did not suffer any injuries.

Alcohol and speed were contributing factors, according to the MHP spokesperson.

Firefighters and EMTs from Montana City and Clancy Volunteer Departments closed Hwy. 282 to all traffic during the incident for the safety of investigators. Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies assisted MHP with the crime scene investigation.

MHP says this was the 47th vehicle fatality in the state this year.
