Friends of the Boulder Library has organized a series of events this May, as part of the Boulder Community Library’s 50th anniversary programming. Friends of the Library has organized anniversary events as part of its effort to reemphasize the library as a community space, and to celebrate the library’s history.

“Libraries are much more free flowing than they used to be, and we’re trying to show people that this is an open space,” said Friends of the Library member Ellen Rae Thiel. “You have to really earn it to get shushed in this library!”

Friends of the Library will be hosting a children’s fishing game from May 5 through May 10, and then an ongoing scrabble game from May 13 to 18. A family game night will be held on May 17, and a pub trivia night on May 31.

“We try to create enjoyment here,” said Theil. “And we’re always looking for new members, if anyone in Boulder wants to get involved.” The next Friends of the Library meeting is scheduled for June 6, and is open to the public.
