Area snowpack gets a modest boost

RELATED

Last week’s winter burst didn’t solve the county’s snowpack problem — but it did help a bit.

The Rocker Peak SNOTEL station reported 18 inches of snow on Jan. 15, up from 13 inches a week earlier, according to the U.S Agriculture Department’s Natural Resources Conservation Service. That put it at 50% of the median snow-water equivalent for this point in the winter, up from 44%. Tizer Basin reported a 12-inch snow base, up from 9 inches. Frohner Meadow was still dramatically behind, with just a 4-inch base, 10% of its median snow-water equivalent.
