Backyard bakery banks on goodies — and goodness

Most bakeries require a storefront and a cash register, but Breanna Spence needs only a backyard shed and faith in her community.

A mother of two young sons, Spence was looking for something to fill her time and call her own when she launched the Backyard Bakery in November 2024.

“I was just talking to my husband, because I’m a stay-at-home mom and I just wanted something else to do,” Spence said. “I’ve always loved baking. So he suggested opening up like a bakery of sorts.”
