Clancy students embrace new college-style courses

The excited chatter of middle schoolers filled teacher Anne Jolliff’s classroom on a recent afternoon as students rotated through three stations, learning the skills of seasoned anglers and aquatic biologists.

At one table, they practiced tying clinch knots through scissors under the guidance of Micah Fields from Backcountry Hunters and Anglers, a volunteer group that works to protect backcountry habitats.

“Twist it around a few times,” Fields instructed, demonstrating the technique. “Feed it through the hole, lick the end, and pull.”
