New two-track adventure trail through county

Backcountry Discovery's two-track route through Jefferson County.

A leading backcountry adventure-riding organization released its much-anticipated Montana route this month, including two tracks through Jefferson County likely to attract thousands of off-road motorists.

The Montana route runs 950 miles from the Canadian border to just outside West Yellowstone, taking riders through northwestern Jefferson County, including the ghost town of Comet and suggested stops in Basin and Boulder for food, gas, and lodging.

The route was created by Backcountry Discovery Routes (BDR), a nonprofit dedicated to mapping off-highway routes for adventure and dual-sport motorcycles. Since its 2010 founding, BDR has built a vast route network across the western and eastern US. Montana is the last western state to get a BDR route.
