Basin school’s reopen push runs into state wall

They’d done all that had been asked of them. Since early July, a committed group of school officials and community volunteers had burned the midnight oil, ticking off the boxes required by the state Office of Public Instruction to enable Basin Elementary to quickly reopen.

Volunteers persuaded several parents to submit expressions of commitment for their children to attend in 2025-26 and secured and began fixing up a rent-free home for a potential teacher.

School Clerk Britton Mann prepared a fresh budget for the coming school year. And with OPI officials appearing to suggest the school still had time, Superintendent Sarah Eyer welcomed to town an interested teacher and urged the board to prepare to interview him.
