Floodplain development permit application

Montana Trout Unlimited has submitted a floodplain development permit application for a project on property owned by Barrick Gold – Golden Sunlight Mine (GSM) located within Section 35, Township 2 North, Range 3 West. As stated in the application materials, the primary purpose of the proposed project is to restore natural fluvial processes and improve ecological function within a lower reach of the Boulder River. Specific project goals include enhancing aquatic habitat and fish passage, restoring natural channel morphology, reestablishing riparian and wetland habitat, and improving water quality parameters such as flow regime, sediment transport, and turbidity. 

The applicant is requesting a Nationwide Permit 27 from the Army Corps, a 310 Permit from the Conservation District, and a local Floodplain Development Permit from Jefferson County. It is anticipated that 318 Authorization will be issued during the 310-review process.
