10 Years as your County Commissioner

It is truly hard to believe I have been serving as your county commissioner for ten years now. It is an honor and a joy to serve the residents of Jefferson County! This position is very unique and a daily challenge. Without the partnership of the outstanding staff and other elected officials, this job would be impossible. We are very lucky to have such great, dedicated people working for the county!

I have seen a lot of ups and downs during my tenure here at the county. One of the most unfortunate events, not due to anything we could have done any better, was the closure of the Montana Developmental Center here in Boulder. This decision lost us many jobs in the local area, and I believe it diminished the quality of care for the residents that were living in the facility.

On the other hand, some notable wins for the county include when Montana Highway Patrol moved from Helena to the vacant MDC campus here in Boulder. This not only brought back a few jobs, it also made use of the state facility before it started to degrade because of vacancy.
