Finding our way into the future

Have you ever misplaced something and searched for hours? And when you finally found it you realized it wasn’t as important as you’d thought and a lot of other things need your attention?

As graduation nears, I’ve been thinking about that feeling of finding a lost item when everything else seems a mess. It’s a strange mix of victory and disarray, like winning a battle in which your whole world was turned upside down. That is what my time at Jefferson High has been.

High school is supposed to be where you come into your own. You enter as a freshman, a 14-year-old with a vague idea of adult life. You soon start making choices in an effort to put yourself on the best path. The road is filled with moments of chaos, late nights studying, sudden and immense personal growth, and everything in between. As a result, it might take all four of your high school years to determine which direction is right and point yourself that way.
