Jefferson High School is making great progress, putting us in position for a fantastic year.
Since the 2022-2023 school year, enrollment has increased 22% to 330 students, including 10 students from the Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch. Due to the exciting changes in the pipeline, we expect this strong growth to continue for some time.
This school year, about 90% of seniors are taking dual credit classes, enabling them to earn college and high school credit at the same time. This gives college-bound students a clear advantage. By taking some classes before entering college, they enter higher education with credits – and a headstart on their peers.
For those uninterested in college, we offer great career and technical education (CTE) courses in business, woods, welding, family, and consumer sciences. These classes prepare students for the job market with valuable skills.
In addition, top organizations like the Business Professionals of America, Skills USA, and the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America support students’ skill development with national competitions and workshops. Seniors also have the opportunity to become a Certified Nursing Assistant or acquire a Commercial Drivers License at no cost.
This spring Jefferson High School will start working with Harmony Educational Services, a Utah-based distance learning consultancy, to offer online classes to homeschooled students within the district. This will expand educational opportunities for homeschooled students in the area and enable them to gain credit toward graduation at no cost to their parents.
In addition, since JHS will be able to count these students as fully or partially enrolled, they will boost the school’s Annual Number Belonging total, resulting in greater state funding
We look forward to what 2026 has in store for Jefferson High School. The new year will mean the continuation of our basketball, wrestling, and speech and debate seasons, and we are excited to host track and field meets in Boulder on our recently completed track and field. Great things are happening at Jefferson High School, and we will continue to offer our students a great education and access to incredible activities and athletics.
Wishing everyone a Happy New Year, and a wonderful 2026.
Erik Wilkerson is the superintendent of Jefferson High School.
