Betty Jo Compton, 94, passed away on Jan. 18, 2026.

Betty Jo was born July 1, 1931 in Great Falls to Dave and Hazel Remy. She grew up in Great Falls, where she took piano lessons and received her education.

A visit to her sister, Helen Wingret, in Loring, Montana changed her life forever. There she met the strapping young Glenn Compton, and from that moment on, she never looked back. Together they purchased the Loring Cash Store and farmed on the side, building a life rooted in hard work and community.

Betty Jo served as the Loring Postmistress for 33 years and she was proud of earning a pension for longer than she worked! She also was an active member of the Loring community through the Loring Women’s Club and played piano for Sunday services at Loring Lutheran Church. She treasured the friendships she made through Eastern Star and Ladies of the Nile.

After retiring, Glenn and Betty Jo made their home in Malta, surrounded by neighbors whose kindness and steady support enriched their later years. They enjoyed many winters in Arizona, traveling and sharing evening happy hours with friends. Betty Jo was an avid reader and rarely missed her weekly trip to the library. She was fortunate to live independently in her home until the day she was welcomed by her husband Glenn and their son Gary.

Betty Jo is survived by her son Gene (Cindy); grandchildren Zeb (Marissa), Leah (Ryan) and Elise (Zach); and great‑grandchildren Wyatt, Peta, Milla, Roxy, Warren and Ethan.
