Jefferson High graduates Trase LeTexier and Jered Padmos may be on college teams that are fierce rivals, but that did not stop them from sharing smiles at the “Brawl of the Wild” played Saturday.
LeTexier, a sophomore on the University of Montana Grizzly roster who red shirted last year, did not play. Padmos, also a sophomore, punts for the Montana State Bobcats.
When the two teams met on the field in Bozeman Saturday, Padmos punted seven times for 294 yards, an average of 42 yards per kick. Those kicks pinned the Griz inside their 20 yard line four times and helped the Cats win the storied contest.
Padmos was named Big Sky Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance.
The Griz got on the scoreboard first and held a 3-0 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the second quarter was big for the Bobcats. Scoring 21 points in the quarter, they took a 21-13 halftime lead.
After stretching that lead to 24- 13 after three, the Bobcats were outscored 10-7 in the final quarter but held on for a 31-23 victory.
At the helm for the Cats was Chris Murray, a sophomore who connected on 10 passes for 98 yards and carried 25 times for another 99 yards, scoring one rushing touchdown. Also entering the end zone for the Cats were Troy Anderson, who scored twice, and Nick LaSane. LaSane was the leading rusher with 121 yards.
Leading the Griz was freshman QB Gresch Jensen, who completed 30 passes for 326 yards and carried five times for 35 yards, including one TD. One key factor for the Griz was Jerry LouieMcGee, a sophomore who gained 97 yards on three kick returns and moved the ball 95 yards on eight pass receptions.
