That $5 payment from Jefferson County for mileage to serve on a jury or a citizen board may not amount to much. But for those who hold onto the check for too long, it could amount to nothing.

Jefferson County’s commissioners recently approved a list of more than a dozen payments issued by the county which have not been cashed. The amounts ranged from five dollars and forty cents to just over a hundred dollars and totaled just under $400.State law allows the county to cancel those payments if not cashed within a year of issuance.

According to the commission, Clerk and Recorder, Bonnie Ramey recently sent a notice to those on the list to be canceled asking them to contact her if they wanted the payment warrants reissued. Those on the list approved by the commission did not respond, they said.

Losing out on collecting money last week were Paul B. Smith, Dori Woods, Sharmin Driear, Candice J Miller, Steven Lee Heronemus, Namie Danielle Winstead, Floyd Oliver, Treasure State Solutions, Raymond Mareno, Joanne Samson, Isaiah Elmer Hollatz, Lacy Nicole Little and Susan A Lipton.
