Lightning-caused fires scorch Jefferson County HOLMES GULCH FIRE CONTAINED; CONROW FIRE REMAINS ACTIVE

MCVFD Public Info Sparked by lightning within 24 hours, two wildfires blackened at least 3800 acres in Jefferson County beginning August 23. 

The Holmes Gulch Fire, which was initially reported about 2 p.m. on Wednesday, devoured 110 acres and forced evacuations in the Montana City area. It was declared 100 percent contained by Sunday night. 

The Conrow Fire, reported Thursday, had scorched 2727 acres by Monday afternoon and was still only 25 percent contained. Burning northwest of the High- way 69 junction near Interstate 15, the fire had caused no evacuations though 26 structures were threatened, according to fire officials.
