The Jefferson County Fair and Rodeo, “A Fair of the Heart,” kicks off on Thursday, August 24 and runs through Sunday, August 27.
The fair features live bands and entertainment all four days. Held at the Jefferson County Recreation Park one-half mile south of Boulder, the fair and rodeo is affordable fun for the whole family. There is free admission to the grounds and a $2 per car parking fee Saturday and Sunday.
Entertainment includes displays and exhibits along with a carousel, horse events, puppet show, inflatable games, laser tag, 4-H animals, a baked goods auction, and other friendly competitions.
The Jefferson County Rodeo Association sponsors the free incounty Wrangler Roundup on Friday, Saturday’s Main Street rodeo parade, and the exciting Boulder NRA Rodeo on Saturday and Sunday.
Steer riding, mini-bull riding, calf dressing and wild cow milking are special rodeo events, sure to put a smile on every face.
Saturday, August 26, “Nine Miles North,” a bluegrass duo from Whitehall, plays from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the gazebo. During Saturday’s beef barbecue put on by Boulder Outlaws 4-H Club from 3-7, “Prairie Smoke” plays in the white barn. “Insufficient Funds Band” plays at the fair’s real barn dance on Saturday night, August 26, from 8-11 pm. Area residents Al Forgey, Blake Mendenhall, and Matt Winters serve up a lively mixture of new and classic country and Southern Rock.
This family-friendly, alcohol-free event costs just $2, and is reminiscent of multi-generational country dances of the past. Dancing the night away in the huge white barn is an experience you’re sure not to forget.
Sunday morning, August 27, is a dog show, kids’ stick horse rodeo and free kids’ treasure hunt in the straw. Person Puppets presents classic puppet shows guaranteed to delight all ages on Sunday at 12:15. The “Night Crawlers” play live music at the gazebo from 12:30-3:30 on Sunday.
