Carousel continues to embrace new features

RELATED

The Boulder River Carousel has a storied history, reaching back more than 50 years. That history is filled with dedication and caring that fits perfectly into the ‘Fair of the Heart’ philosophy. Nearly every year, though, something new is added, some- times for maintenance reasons, sometimes just because it seems to go well with the carousel.

In the past seven years, the carousel has gradually been enclosed in the building where it now resides. Over the course of a couple of years, walls, windows and a roof went up. With the building completed, carousel organizers have been able to leave the horses in place rather than moving them into a storage building between uses as they were for years.

The covering also allowed the carousel group to tackle some maintenance issues, addressing the toll taken by exposure to the outdoors. New flooring was put on, thanks to donation of wood by Marks Lumber. New sweeps, the wooden spans that run from the center to the outside of the carousel above riders, were installed, funded by donations from a traveling group of national carousel enthusiasts.
