A good, old-fashioned Fourth of July

From sack races to tug of war to a watermelon eating contest, there was plenty of good-natured competition between neighbors when Boulder celebrated the mid-summer holiday with Fourth of July in the Park. Organized by local volunteers, the event has grown over the years and drew a large crowd this year to Veteran’s Park on Main Street.

Focused on family fun, the event offered something for all ages, including a bouncy house that had the littlest ones lining up and a rock climbing wall that attracted slightly older children and adults. Even those not so athletically inclined got into the fun, taking part in limbo contests, watermelon eating, and a tug of war. And for the most sedate in the crowd, there was still enjoyment to be had by listening to live music by local singer Clint Rieder and his band and visiting with friends and neighbors.

Carousel rides, a parade, a flag ceremony and a fireworks display rounded out the events for the day. With warm, dry weather, participants were able to take in all the day had to offer thanks to the hard work of Boulder River Carousel, parade organizers, park event planners and supervisors, the Boulder Kiwanis, the American Legion and local firefighters.
