Study examines rest area impacts on community

Jefferson County and the City of Boulder will need to come up with about $854,000 as the local share of the cost of a new rest area planned for the northwest corner of the Boulder Interstate 15 interchange, estimates in a recently released feasibility study say.

The Montana Department of Transportation will cover about $3.72 million for the project, says the plan. An agreement over areas of responsibility still needs to be worked out, detailing long term water and wastewater service, installation of infrastructure costs, and easement acquisition, says the report. Overall, the project appears to be headed for construction, perhaps beginning as soon as this fall and completion about a year later, officials said. Prior to the feasibility study, the county commission committed to make sure water and sewer service would be extended from the city across the interstate.

The plan calls for service lines to extend southwest from the rest area before turning to connect with existing lines. The sewer line will connect at the end of the alley between Jackson and Adams streets and the water line will connect at the end of Jackson, says the plan. The feasibility study determined the project faces few obstacles.
