The following cases were heard in district court in Boulder recently.
Gary S. Hayes, Montana City, was sentenced April 26 to 100 years in prison with all but 30 years suspended for sexual abuse of a ten-year-old girl. Hayes was found guilty February 16 after a two-day jury trial. He was previously convicted in 1989 of sexual intercourse without consent and ordered to register as a sex offender. After being registered for a few years, he told officials he was moving out of the state and his registration expired. In 2011, Hayes moved to Johns Street in Montana City and failed to register with Jefferson County as a sex offender. Last week Judge Luke Berger ordered Hayes to register as a Tier 2 sex offender, to submit to a sexual evaluation, to provide a DNA sample, and to pay $600 in restitution. The judge also said Hayes would not be eligible for probation until he has completed his 30 year term.
Gary H. Baxter, Whitehall, pleaded not guilty April 19 to drunk driving and speeding. Law enforcement officials allege he was stopped by an officer when driving 63 miles per hour in a 35 zone around 1 a.m. on March 11. He has been released on $20,000 bond and ordered not to be in any bar except the one he owns, not to consume alcohol, and to participate in 24/7 sobriety monitoring pending further court action.
Mary Kay Bradley, Boulder, entered a guilty plea April 19 to felony possession of methamphetamine. In exchange for the plea, charges of marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia were dismissed. According to court records, Bradley was arrested after a man reported finding her sleeping in his vehicle. A law enforcement officer said she was confused about where she was and seemed disoriented. The judge ordered a pre-sentencing investigation and continued bond at $1500. While out on bond, Bradley was ordered not to possess alcohol, not to go into bars, to submit to random testing for drugs, to seek employment and more.
