With a bill including $500,000 for revitalization of Boulder headed into its final legislative hurdle, Boulder Transition Advisory Committee Chair Drew Dawson says the community’s work is only just beginning. The likely authorization of the fund came from a lot of hard work by HB 387 sponsor Rep. Kirk Wagoner and co-sponsor Sen. Edie McClafferty as well as other legislators, lobbyists, county officials and others, he said. The groundwork laid by community members also played a big role in advancing the legislation, he said.

“Thanks to all of you and everyone else who was involved,” said Dawson in an email sent out over the weekend. “It points to the strength of a terrific team approach in which communication and collaboration are paramount.” If approved, the funding will be administered by the Department of Health and Human Services as part of the budget beginning July 1. Work by the community to make the most of the opportunity needs to begin, said Dawson.

“We need to capitalize on the enthusiasm and energy of our community team to implement, thoughtfully and systematically, the Boulder Master Plan consistent with the community’s Vision and Priorities established through Making Boulder’s Future Bright,” said Dawson. “We will also renew our discussions about MDC repurposing,” he said.
