The JHS boys’ golf program begins its 2025 season as returning Class B state champions, with hopes of securing their third state championship in four years, while the girls’ team aims to qualify for the state tournament.
“There’s always more work to do, but the ultimate goal, for the boys, is obviously to be the back-to-back state champs,” said JHS head golf coach Anna DeMars. “The kids have worked all summer and winter, and are ready to be competitive.”
The 12-member JHS boys’ team returns three of five varsity starters: seniors Tyson Lee and Ben Werner and sophomore Carson Lee. Tyson Lee took third overall at state last year, with an aggregate score of 150, and Ben Werner took fifth with a score of 154. Carson Lee, the squad’s youngest returning member, had a score of 198.
“Of course we want to go back-to-back, but we don’t want them coming at us in the paper, so let’s not be too bold,” said Tyson Lee. “We don’t know what’s out there yet, and who else is going to be competitive. But winning again is a real possibility.”
The girls’ varsity returns seniors Maryah Lindsay and Shae Jones-Moore, who both individually qualified for the state tournament last year, and junior Eryn Lindsay. The girls have six golfers this season, up from last year’s five, and hope to capitalize on having a substitute.
“We have all the skills we need to do well, we just need to use them,” said Lindsay. “We have a real shot of making state, and maybe placing as a team.”
The JHS golf program begins its season April 1 with a match in Hamilton.
