Boulder’s newest police officer, Travis Rasmussen, was sworn in March 20 with plenty of proud relatives watching on. Although he grew up in Utah, he spent time on his grandparents’ ranch near Stevensville, Montana, and “I learned to love this beautiful state, and hard work and dedication,” Rasmussen said. A

fter completing the law enforcement academy in Utah, he said, he began searching for a position in a small Montana town. The wide array of opportunities for outdoor recreation was part of what attracted him to Boulder, the 23-year-old said. Saying, “I’ve had a lot of great examples of service,” Rasmussen said a career in law enforcement appealed to him because it is a service-oriented pursuit that also requires reasonable judgment. 

Following a ceremony in which his mother pinned his badge on his uniform, Rasmus- sen spent time meeting the city council members and others at the meeting. Chief of Police Juan Trujillo said Rasmussen will need to complete some training before hitting the streets in Boulder around early summer.
