Jefferson High board meets

After a closed session to evaluate the superintendent, Jefferson High school trustees dealt with several unrelated issues March 20. 

A bill making its way through the Montana Legislature may lead to a new requirement for notifying taxpayers about details of portions the school budget on which there is no public vote. In anticipation of the passage of that bill, school districts are publishing legal notices on some potential budget changes. (See the legal notice section of this issue.) 

The publication is merely “our best guess at this time” of changes that could take place, JHS business director Lorie Carey told the board. “This is transparency to our voters that this is a possibility,” she said. Publishing the public notice does not lock the district into any increase or decrease in the affected funds. The board agreed to work on a press release explaining the situation.
