JHS Happenings in February

RELATED

The month of February has been busy with winter sports as well as a number of other student activities. On Valentine’s Day, the community had the chance to attend a Jazz Band concert hosted by the JHS music department. The night included a special guest, live performances, and a full dinner. The event was well attended and showcased the talents of our local musicians.

The art department has also been busy and for a number of weeks, displaying the works of many different genres throughout the building. The school entrance and all display cases were full of students work for viewing pleasure.

This past month has been busy with a variety of school activities. School visits occurred at Boulder Elementary, Clancy, and Montana City as Jefferson High School started the enrollment process for the 2017-18 school year. Students and staff gave presentations to 8th grade students about all the happenings at JHS. The students did a great job letting 8th grade students know about the opportunities available at JHS.

The winter sports schedule has concluded. The JHS wrestling team qualified nine wrestlers for the state tournament in Billings. Although no wrestlers placed, all qualifiers return for competition next year. The program had its highest number of competitors in recent years and looks to build on the recent success. The boys and girls completed the basketball seasons with competition at the District 5B tournament in Belgrade. Both teams finished fourth in the district by winning two games and losing two. The boys’ team had a lone senior this year and the girls return a solid nucleus for next year.

The support of the JHS band and cheerleading squad was greatly appreciated during the tournament and the halftime performance by the dance team was exceptional. Spring sports will start Monday, March 13.

The JHS Drama Department will be performing the musical “Into the Woods” March 8-10 in the JHS south gym. This is a combined production of the drama and music departments and features many JHS students. The show looks to be one to see with music, drama, and a great set with outstand- ing props. Mark your calendars and come enjoy a great night of entertainment.

The welding and woodshop classes are nearing completion of a bench dedicated to the JHS Class of 1966. During their 50th class reunion, they approached the school about constructing a bench in memory of class members. The bench is made of two halves of a local spruce tree with steel reinforced back and legs. Inset in the back is the year 1966. Once the project is completed, it will be displayed at a designated spot on the school campus. Thanks to the Class of 1966 for the donation to create this bench in honor of your class.

The local Mariah’s Challenge group hosted a teen Super Bowl party at the high school. This was an opportunity to provide a positive atmosphere and support students in making good life decisions. Thanks for this great event.
