Boulder girl right on target

Briana Layng of Boulder, daughter of Jefferson High’s head boys’ basketball coach Clint Layng and his wife Sarah, also a hoops coach, recently demonstrated that all those hours in the gym have not been lost on her. She won the 8-9-year-old girls’ state title for free throw shooting. After winning the local shoot in Boulder, she topped the Helena shoot and then won the district title at Anaconda. That sent her to the state level competition, where she faced district champions from the four other districts. At State she hit nine of ten on her first round and 21 of 25 overall. Next she travels to the regional shoot in Rapid City, South Dakota on March 11 to represent Montana. There she will compete against champions from North and South Dakota. The winner there will compete in the national contest in Chicago in April.
