Summarizing the happenings from a full year of news is a fruitless effort. For some readers, the top story was when that cute grandson’s photo made the paper. For others, it was when the city council made a decision affecting them personally. Still others found news of the local economy the most important. We do not pretend the following stories were the most important. They did, however, attract a fair amount of attention and comment in letters to the editor, comments on the street or in local coffee spots, and many have continuing implications.

MAIN STREET ACCIDENT A high speed crash on Boulder’s Main Street sent three people to the hospital when one vehicle, traveling an estimated 60 or more miles per hour the wrong direction, collided with another. The two occupants of a southbound vehicle, James and Peggy Bunting of Helena, were nearing the intersection of Main and Centennial when a 2014 Chevy Equinox headed northbound in the southbound lane struck them, sending both cars careening and shearing off a wheel assembly from each. Vehicle parts were scattered throughout the intersection.

Donald Colbert of Dillon, the driver of the Equinox, was life-flighted out. All three victims had to be extricated with the jaws of life by emergency responders. Law enforcement officials said alcohol was not a factor in the accident. Toxicology testing was underway as well as investigation of possible medical causes, said law enforcement officials after the accident. Roughly a month after the accident James Bunting said both heand his wife were recovering from the accident. No information on Colbert was available, though a daughter-in-law said the accident was the result of a medical situation. At last report, no crime lab results had been returned and no citations had been issued.
