Museum closes for inventory; seeks volunteers

Jefferson County Museum closed Dec. 15 so staff can inventory its collection and work on related projects. Director Bruce Bell said he expects to reopen the museum by March 1 — possibly sooner if volunteers join the effort.

Bell, a retired math teacher who has worked at the museum for about a year, said inventories have been started a few times in the past but never finished. Without a complete inventory that’s accessible by computer, it can be tough to build an exhibit or tell someone the status of a donation a relative made years ago, he said.

Such an inventory will also reveal which parts of the county are better or less represented in the collection, he said.
