Proposed trail system in northern Jefferson County open to comment

The Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest, Helena Ranger District, is soliciting public comment on the Strawberry Butte Front Country Trail Management Project. The Helena Ranger District is proposing a non-motorized system of trails in the North Elkhorns around the Strawberry Lookout, Willard and Maupin Creek areas.

Comments from interested or affected public is requested by November 30. Comments must include name, address, project title, specific comments and supporting reasons, and signature or other verification of identity. Electronic comments must be submitted to comments-helen-helena@fs.fed.us. Comments may also be hand delivered to the Helena District Office during office hours.

Unmanaged, non-motorized recreation has been occurring in the North Elkhorns for the past 25 years, says the Forest Service, but increase use has raised concerns.
