Gene Huizinga was called home to join his parents and siblings on November.13, 2018. He was granted the wish to pass with dignity at his home after being diagnosed with very aggressive cancer. He was blessed with the ability to spend some quality time with friends and family and to relive some great memories before his end.
Gene was born October 11, 1955 in Alexandria Minnesota as one of six boys in the family of eight children. He attended school in Minnesota and the Butte area. He entered the Marine Corps in 1972 and served his country as a Sergeant in the Vietnam War. He worked several jobs throughout his life around the Boulder and Helena area. Gene loved his Minnesota Vikings and lived for their games. He also liked to fish, hunt and go camping. Many beers were consumed on camping trips and get togethers and he made all around him laugh and laugh hard.
Gene is survived by his children Cody (Sarah) Huizinga and their son Jake, his daughter Megan Huizinga and her daughter Baylee. Gene took pride in his grandkids and cherished the day he had a grandson to carry on the family name. He is also survived by brothers Leon Huizinga, Cameron (Sally) Christianson, and sisters Debbie (Steve) Powley and Connie (Jim) Koubsky and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Gene had many friends, which he did not realize, who visited with him up to the end and all will greatly miss him.
He was preceded in death by his parents Eldon and Margaret Huizinga and brothers Keith Huizinga, Allen Huizinga and Stan Lund.
Special thanks to his daughter Megan for taking such good care of her Dad during this hard time. Thank you to Hospice of Helena and doctors and nurses at the Helena and Salt Lake City V.A. centers. Thanks also to all of his great friends and neighbors for their support during this time. In addition the Boulder Police Department for their respect and thoughtfulness after his death.
Private family services are pending, as he will be laid to rest at the Fort Harrison veteran’s cemetery. Semper Fi!
Donations can be made to the Gene Huizinga Memorial Fund set up at the Madison Valley Bank in Boulder to aid his family for funeral expenses. Thank You!
