Norbert Stauner, of Basin, passed away on October 3, 2018 at St. James Hospital in Butte. He was born on March 10, 1928 on a dairy farm near Turtle Lake, Wisconsin to George and Martha (Molls) Stauner. He was number six of nine children.

He moved to Basin in the spring of 1951 and eventually built his house and shops at the top of Placer Loop. Norbert worked at various jobs throughout his long life – the Forest Service, the railroad, the highway department, the Berkley Pit and his last employment was at the silica mine just east of Basin.

Norbert was a true friend and neighbor to many in Basin and Boulder and the surrounding area, and he would frequently drop what he was doing to help people out. He was a consummate tinkerer and an inventor extraordinaire – he could build anything you needed. He was also a great storyteller and had a sly and wicked sense of humor.
