With activities filling both the northern and southern ends of the county, June 9 and 10 was the busiest weekend thus far as spring heads into summer. This weekend, the center of the county will step into the scene with the Boulder Area Chamber of Commerce City-wide Garage Sale.
“Jefferson County had quite a weekend as the event season is in full swing,” said county Event Coordinator Bruce Binkowski. “Saturday was the hugely successful Clancy Days. And before that day-long event started, hundreds of runners participating in the Governor’s Cup marathon were in Jefferson City at 6 a.m. to begin the 45th annual run. An hour later, several hundred additional runners left Clancy School at 7 a.m. to participate in the half marathon. Runners left from Jefferson County and finished in Lewis & Clark County.”
This was the first time in the Governor’s Cup 45 years that runners took off from Jefferson County. Taking advantage of the opportunity to reach runners from all across Montana and beyond, the county supplied promotional brochures in packets provided to every runner. Those brochures included information about other events and attractions in the county.
Calling Clancy Days a huge success, Binkowski credited the hard work of the Clancy Days committee chaired by Mickey Senechal.
“There is a great deal of effort that goes into producing an event like this and kudos to all who contributed,” he said.
More than 40 vendors lined Clancy streets, serving up food ranging from Thai to burgers to brats and offering flea market treasures. Also along the streets were educational booths on weed control, search and rescue, pet adoption and more. Live music, pony rides and games for youngsters, skill demonstrations such as weaving and spinning and a parade entertained attendees.
“What was really great to see was the number of families out enjoying the day,” said Binkowski, noting that planning will start soon for Clancy Days 2019.
“There is no doubt it will be bigger and better than ever,” he added.
In the southern end of the county, Montana Mule Days filled the Whitehall rodeo grounds Friday through Sunday.
“This is the second year the event has been in Whitehall and reports are attendance increased all three days compared to last year,” said Binkowski.
Wrapping up the weekend, he said, “Overall, it was a great weekend for Jefferson County. And summer is just getting started.”
