Tourney brings fun and funds

Friends laughing and lacing up their tennis shoes. Kids cheering from the bleachers as their parents jostle for the ball under the net. Serious basketball played for the not-so-serious honor of winning a t-shirt. Main street businesses jammed with tournament fans.

Those were the scenes as another year of Boulder’s annual charity basketball tournament, Ballin’ in Big Rock, wrapped up this weekend. Three days and twenty-three teams (15 men’s, 8 women’s) combined with many volunteers to make for a successful community event.

Organizers Brady Minow Smith and Angela Rutherford said they are pleased with the turnout and results. “We raised $2700 for Boulder non-profits and people had a lot of fun,” said Smith. “This is one of my favorite weekends of the year. I love seeing everyone come back to Boulder to have a good time together playing basketball.”
