Group outlines hiking/biking trails

An impressive outline of potential walking and biking trail routes near Boulder has been submitted to consultants working on local master planning.

Prepared by the Boulder Transition Advisory Committee’s Recreational Committee, two maps show more than a dozen routes that would expand recreational opportunities in and around the community.

While identified as “brainstorming ideas” that may present challenges due to funding and easement issues, the routes should be considered in future planning, says a report prepared by the committee.

Among locations accessed via the proposed trails: the Boulder River, the fairgrounds, the natural classroom at JHS, the community garden, the Boulder Hot Springs, Depot Hill, BLM lands, and Pulpit Rock Road.

At its April meeting, the BTAC voted in support of the plan and agreed to send it on for consideration in master planning. The BTAC also thanked Bill Dawson, Recreation Committee Chair, for the work done by his group.

Dawson said the committee is nearing completion of its work and the recreational issues will be referred to the county’s new trails and recreation board. Dawson will be a part of that board.
