More than 40 Jefferson High musicians in 19 different entries earned top honors (superior ratings) at the District Music Festival and will be performing before judges at the State Music Festival this week.
The JHS Concert Band earned superior ratings for two entries, including sight reading. The Jazz Band also garnered the top rating from the judges. Also earning top marks was the JHS Drumline.
Other instrumentalists advancing to state include the sax ensemble, flute ensemble, and trumpet ensemble. The flute duet of Emme Rosenbaum and Jessie Molitor also will advance, along with soloists Taylor Peterson on the violin, Jessie Molitor on the flute, Samantha Allen on the clarinet, Mathias Patterson on the French horn, Kaela Rosenbaum on the sax, Kylie Marks on the euphonium and Samuel Williams on the trumpet.
The Women’s Vocal Ensemble led the way for the JHS singers, qualifying for the state competition. Other vocalists moving on include soloists Jillian Norris and Alexis Popejoy, vocal duet Jillian Norris and Alexis Popejoy, plus vocal trio Jillian Norris, Madison Leiva and Abbie Youde.
Another 20 JHS entries earned excellent ratings (second place) at the district festival. While not sufficient to move on to the state level competition, the excellent rating indicates performances just short of top honors.
