Boulder residents dream up town’s future

Dream big. That’s what people were asked to do when they attended the Boulder Growth Policy and Downtown Master Plan public meeting on February 22 at the Town Hall in Boulder.

Organized by Land Solutions, the firm compiling the growth policy for Boulder as well as the downtown master plan, the meeting was intended to help prioritize community goals, guide redevelopment efforts and discuss strategies for improving downtown Boulder

More than 30 people attended and spent two hours digging into how best to make Boulder an attractive, thriving community. Small groups brainstormed action steps to achieve eleven goals already identified in BTAC and Making Boulder’s Future Brighter study circles. After lively group meetings, individuals prioritized action items by putting green dots on high priority action items.

People also took a short survey to guide the planning process. For those who missed the meeting or haven’t completed the survey, the survey is available online until March 15 at https://goo.gl/forms/zgyYKfyYog8WW6Bo1

Jessica Holdren from Land Solutions said the master plan process will build off existing and previous planning. “So much has been done already. We are not starting from scratch,” she said. She explained that the findings of the meeting and surveys will be compiled and used to create draft action plans to recommend to the public at meetings in the spring.

Lisa Vossler, downtown business owner, said she was encouraged to see that similar ideas came up in the three small groups.

“One thing people talked about was Boulder stores doing a better job of publicizing our sales. We are trying to do that with L & P Grocery. Customers have told me our sale prices are competitive if not less than those in the ads you see for other stores.”
