JHS student takes second in Montana essay contest

With the best finish ever by a Jefferson High student in the annual Voice of Democracy speech contest, senior Craig Trammel was presented last week with a $1000 check for finishing second in the state of Montana.

The contest, sponsored by the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars), is overseen at Jefferson High by Larrey Lattin, who presented Trammel with his award. Smaller amounts of monetary awards were also presented to Trammel for winning the school and district level competitions, said social studies teacher Fritz Bieler.

“Larrey has been overseeing the contest at Jefferson High for over 25 years and the VFW has awarded thousands of dollars to Jefferson High students,” said Bieler.
