Jefferson High School Theatre is set to return to the stage with two shows for two nights on January 30 and 31. The Beginning Drama class will present the one act comedy “10 Ways to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse” and the Advanced Drama class will bring “The Big Sandy,” an original one act comedy.

The Beginning Drama production introduces several new talents to the stage. Jaxson Yanzick, Nick Workman and Talen Demers make their stage debut, while Brooklyn Leary, Emme Rosenbaum, and Rita Buffa return to the stage in a much larger role. As leads these six students try to navigate an apocalyptic world full of zombies. They are joined by Jessica Finstad and Samatha Camp-Frankforter in their comedic attempts to survive the zombie attacks. The zombies include many new comers: Jack Gottlob, Derek Rasch, Connor Davis, Lily Smith, Kaitlynn Sheldon, Gavin Wood, Michael Mitchell, Emilee Drier, Tielyr Gordon. Bobbie Jo Sutherlin keeps everybody together as the first-time stage manager.

Advanced Drama returns with “The Big Sandy” which is an original one act comedy by director Mike Hesford. It is a comedic take on The Cornfield Bomber. Set in 1970, the cornfield bomber is the true story of a jet plane from Malmstrom Air Force Base that lost control during a training exercise and was forced to eject. Upon ejection, the plane stabilized and landed safely without landing gear in a wheat field outside of Big Sandy, MT. The name cornfield bomber, as it was called, was a misnomer by those who did not understand all the details. The play centers around the farm and family where the plane lands. As they try to figure out what happened, a crazy cast of characters shows up, and what follows is straight out of America.

“Although it’s a lot of fun,” Hesford says, “bringing an original work to the stage is always a challenge, and I couldn’t do it without the help of my amazing students.”

“The Big Sandy” will also be performed at the Montana State Thespian Festival on February 2 at 11:00 p.m. on the University of Montana main stage.

Join us in the Jefferson High School Theater at 7:00 p.m. for a night of laughter and fun. Tickets will be $5 for students and $7 for adults. If you have any questions please call 225-3317.
