Panther wrestlers place fourth in opening tourney

The Jefferson High School Panther wrestling team opened its season at the Badger Invitational Tournament in Cascade on Dec. 6 and Dec. 7. The Panthers had 19 wrestlers participate in the tournament that saw 23 teams enter.

The Panthers started the tournament in the pig-tail round, in which a wrestler must win the match to stay in the varsity tournament. Jace Oxarart at 132 pounds, Clara Lufkin and John Armstrong at 138 pounds, Gracie Olds at 145 pounds and Miles Dodge at 152 pounds competed in this round; Oxarart, Armstrong and Dodge won their matches while Lufkin and Olds did not and were eliminated from the tournament.

In the first regular round, Leo Anderson and Briana Garcia at 103 pounds, Christian and Dominick Davis at 113 pounds, Cody St. Clair at 120 pounds, Eli Reed at 138 pounds, Braeden Jones at 160 pounds, Jeyden Sullivan at 170 pounds, Dakota Dorn at 182 pounds and Matt Riehl at 205 pounds all advanced, with the Davis twins, St. Clair, Reed, Jones, Sullivan, Dorn and Riehl winning by pin. Joe Campagna at 205 pounds was injured in his match and would take an early exit from the tournament.
