A draft of Jefferson County’s capital improvements plan is shaping up after public meetings were held in Whitehall, Boulder and Montana City so residents could suggest spending priorities.
“The next steps are to finalize the inventory lists for things like roads, bridges, buildings, fire/EMS and try to finish putting ‘high level’ cost estimates to them,” said Jerry Grebenc, senior planner for Great West Engineering, the firm assembling the plan.
Grebenc has said the capital improvements plan will let the Board of Commissioners prioritize maintenance, repair and improvements of infrastructure and equipment and to identify funding for such projects. The plan will also help ensure that consistent decisions are made as staff and elected officials change and will be reviewed annually and revised as needed.
About 10 people attended the Aug. 27 Montana City meeting, Grebenc said, while only a few showed up in Boulder on Aug. 22 and in Whitehall on Aug. 20
Feedback will be included in a draft plan for the commissioners and residents to review.
The commission will be asked “to establish an overall priority list for the most important projects that they think should be completed,” Grebenc said.
Additional public meetings will occur after the draft is completed and also when the final plan is up for adoption in November or December, according to the project schedule.
