Under the heat of an August sun, pre-season practices have started for Jefferson High’s fall sports teams. The first few sessions for football, volleyball and cross country indicate that the Panthers should bring strong numbers to this year’s campaigns.
Coach Clint Layng’s football squad has over 40 practicing, and Mike Majors’ volleyball numbers are high, too. Turn-out for cross country has been a little low, but hopefully the numbers will pick up as the start of school approaches.
Speaking of which: The first day of class for Jefferson High freshman is August 26. All other grades will start August 27.
Football will start the season on Friday, August 30 when they take on Florence in Missoula at the Griz stadium. Start time is 7:00pm. Volleyball gets the season started August 31, with both Varsity and JV squads traveling to Manhattan for a tournament. The Panthers’ cross country teams will host the first meet of the year in Boulder on August 31.
Homecoming for volleyball is September 12, against Broadwater. Football’s homecoming is September 13, when the Panthers host Columbus.
The JHS Booster Club’s first meeting of the year is September 10 at Jefferson High School.
And the Jefferson County In-County rodeo is this Friday, August 23. The NRA Pro rodeo will follow, Saturday starting at 5 pm and Sunday at 2 pm. Admission each day is $8 for adults and $5 for kids. It’s a great time for all ages.
