The Whitehall Garden Club is once again organizing the floral show at the Jefferson County Fair from Aug. 21-25 in Boulder.

This year the club is instituting a “more standard flower show format,” according to club member Mary Ann Carey. For example, clear glass vases are required for the horticulture classes — important for viewing stem counts, stem condition and trimmed leaves.

Exhibitors are encouraged to enter floral design arrangements such as the nature-inspired “Drifting Down the Boulder,” where exhibitors will do a fresh floral design with water showing. “The design categories are a chance to be creative and display flowers and plants differently than what would be seen in commercial flower shop arrangements,” Carey said, noting that houseplants, container gardens and educational displays can also be entered in the floral department.

Floral department entries, as well as food, crops and gardening, will be taken in the red barn from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 24.
