Is President Trump a Manchurian candidate? By definition, a Manchurian candidate is a politician who is unknowingly controlled or manipulated by a foreign power, making them a puppet for that power’s agenda. Now for the facts: This administration has undermined NATO; instigated a trade war with western allies; until recently refused to let Ukraine and Europe into the Ukrainian/Russian peace process; disallowed Ukraine to join NATO along with its European neighbors; supported Russia’s narrative that Ukraine started the war and objected to the phrase “Russian aggression” in a G7 statement on Ukraine; defunded election monitors who provide fair and unbiased election results; cut all funding to pro-democracy programs; and backed pro-Russian elections in Romania.
These and many more of our President’s policies, not to mention the hate and divisiveness being spewed, are no doubt causes for great joy and jubilation in Moscow. Many Russian officials and media outlets are stunned by this about-face in U.S. diplomacy. For 70-plus years Republicans and Democrats stood up to Russian interference in both internal and international affairs. This has abruptly changed under one man – a Manchurian candidate.
