Families from around Clancy came out to the Summer Reading Program Kick-off at Clancy Volunteer Fire Department on June 11.

To complement the program’s theme — “A Universe of Stories” — Ryan Hannahoe, executive director of the Montana Learning Center in Helena, gave a presentation about space, handed out solar viewing glasses to children so they could safely view the sun, and brought a “sun spotter,” a device for people to view spots on the sun when it peeks out from behind the clouds.

The kick-off was held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and organized by M.C. Pancich and Carly Delsigne of the North Jefferson County Library District. Before the presentation, families enjoyed refreshments, signed up for the reading program and picked up reading logs to track their progress.

Delsigne said by email that the program is on track to meet last year’s record of more than 400 participants.
