June 3 deadline to give online feedback on Boulder branding

Boulder residents can soon provide feedback on branding that’s being developed for the city in a process that’s taking longer than originally anticipated.

Windfall, the Missoula-based firm hired to help brand the city, will post online logos and slogans likely by Thursday morning, May 30, according to the firm’s Crystal Glueckert. The items will be posted to windfallstudio.com/boulder and available for reviewing until June 3, states a news release she provided.

The logos and slogans and the public’s feedback on them will be presented at the June 6 meeting of the Boulder Transition Advisory Committee at City Hall. Committee members will vote on which items to recommend the Boulder City Council to approve at its June 17 meeting.

The online presentation will be at least the fourth Windfall has made to city officials of its works in progress. The first was April 18, when Glueckert and Windfall CEO Jim McGowan met with City officials to present four logos, three color schemes and three slogans — the firm’s initial designs of the key elements of an integrated branding campaign — which were developed following a survey of the community conducted by Windfall.

Survey results showed that most people believe Boulder’s strengths to be its natural beauty, welcoming attitude, access to outdoor recreation and proximity to two larger cities. Noted shortcomings included a lack of a greater variety of dining and lodging facilities.

Most respondents indicated being full-time Boulder residents. In addition to noting favorite area activities and attraction, they answered questions about whether and how they would like to see Boulder economically developed and how they felt about their community.

Since the initial presentation, Windfall has presented at least two rounds of revisions. Each time, City officials and others involved in the project have expressed mostly dissatisfaction with the agency’s work and provided additional feedback.

Final versions of the branding and marketing items were originally slated for presentation to the City Council at its May 20 meeting.
